The title of this post definetly applies to me! But not today. Today I almost popped a woman in WalMart for shooting HER mouth off.
I have a 28 year old daughter who has special needs. I also use the word "handicapped" even though it is not politically correct, she's my kid and I can say she's handicapped if I want to. You will find as you read my posts I am frequently not "PC" because I just don't give a sh*t!
My daughter's name for this blog is Helga. I won't use my childrens' real names in my blog for security purposes, although some of you know them. Unless, of course, I REALLY find it necessary to embarrass them......
Anyway, after I picked up my grandson from pre-school this morning I needed to run to WalMart because it's one of those crazy weeks at school (more on that later.)
Helga doesn't talk. She says a few words, but they are only understood by those of us who are around her all the time. When she is mad, the only way she has of expressing her displeasure is to yell and scream (shriek might be more accurate) and I will admit it can be VERY aggravating. You should try sitting next to her in a car when she starts expressing her displeasure!
Helga was not happy at WalMart because she wanted me to buy her something and I said "No." So she started yelling. There are many times when I don't even know why she is mad, but today I knew what her problem was. I continued my shopping and told her several times to "Stop it" and "Be quiet." Helga has been to this WalMart many times and most of the employees and other shoppers know her and are very understanding. As I was checking out, I heard a woman at the cashier behind me asking "Did you hear that kid making all that noise?" The cashier waits on us all the time and knows all of the kids. She explained to the woman that it was not a kid making the noise it was an adult with special needs. I continued to unload my cart and the other customer just couldn't let it go! She kept talking about how it scared her and she jumped a foot, and going on and on and on about the noise. The cashier kept trying to get her to drop it, but she just kept going. I kept my mouth shut for several minutes until the other customer said "I thought maybe there was some kind of animal loose in the store." And then I HAD to say something! I turned around to the woman and said "You know I am standing right here and she it sitting on the floor right next to me! Yes she is handicapped but she can still hear you! She is my daughter, I am sorry she disturbed you so much, but I've heard enough!" The woman says "Well I'm sorry, I didn't know...." She didn't apologize about all the crap she was saying, she was sorry that I was standing right there and heard her! As I said above, I wanted to pop her!
After she left the cashier and a few other customers apologized for her. The cashier hadn't realized I was standing behind her until I said something and I KNOW she wanted to just die. She said she was trying to get her to drop it but she just kept going. I told her I knew because I had heard the entire conversation. She felt so bad because she didn't know how to get this woman to stop. It wasn't the cashier's fault.
I understand that Helga can be annoying, but I have to shop and she has lived with me her entire life. She attended school until she was 21 but now she is home with me. I will NOT hide her away, she will be with me in public.
So folks before you start talking about someone, make sure the person you want to bad mouth isn't somewhere nearby OR better yet.....IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!
